A new project to protect biodiversity: the creation of a 5-hectare wetland area within Riserva San Massimo.

After 8 months of work, we have completed the creation of a small microcosm within Riserva San Massimo.

Riserva San Massimo is situated in a unique environment where the protection of biodiversity is the main focus. This is why our commitment is unwavering and supported by initiatives aimed at further enhancing the existing natural ecosystem.

In February, we launched an important project aimed at expanding the aquatic areas of Riserva San Massimo by converting some fields into a 50,000 m² wetland.

Since the beginning of May, thousands of cubic meters of soil have been excavated from the wetland to form islands and edges, shaping a retention basin. To rapidly develop a suitable area rich in biodiversity and provide an ideal habitat for local fauna, more than six hundred goat willow trees, members of the willow family, along with other angiosperms, have been planted.

In October, with great pride and dedication, we completed the creation of the wetland area within Riserva San Massimo. The area now hosts numerous islands of different sizes and elevations, made possible by meticulous water management. More than 900 shrubs and other hygrophilous plants have been planted to support a variety of animal species, both migratory and sedentary, contributing to the creation of a vast and thriving habitat. This project, aimed at further enhancing the natural ecosystem of Riserva San Massimo, is an accomplishment of which we are immensely proud.
